Welcome back to the first edition of Flight Path for 2025! It's been a jam-packed start to the year here at Bluebird Leadership, but I'm feeling recharged after an epic 3-week summer road trip along Australia's east coast. We drove over 3,000 kilometers, explored 50 beaches and countless hours spent fishing provided the perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature, loved ones, and myself – and to reflect and reset for the year ahead. This edition is curated with insights and strategies to help you do the same.

2025 Reboot

I have a yearly reboot process that I've been experimenting with and refining for a few years now, and it always sets me up for success. Here's what it looks like:

  1. I start with Tim Ferriss's Past Year Review to reflect on the past year and design the year ahead to intentionally fill my time with people and activities that truly nourish me.

  2. A review of what is essential for 2025, inspired by Greg McKeown's book Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less. It's about identifying what truly matters and making those things effortless. You can learn more about this on a recent episode of The Tim Ferriss show with Greg.

  3. To keep me inspired, I've created a 2025 Purposeful Playlist filled with 12 songs that remind me of what's important – meaningful work, unique adventures, joy, and kindness. Why not create your own? It's a great way to set intentions and add meaning to your year.

Every breath paradigm

Over the holidays, I read The Earned Life by Marshall Goldsmith. One of the most poignant takeaways is the Buddhist concept of the "every breath paradigm," which suggests that life is a progression of discrete moments of constant reincarnation from a previous you to a present you.

So with every breath, a new version of ourselves is born and we can stop torturing ourselves for some past error that the present version of ourselves didn’t commit. This resonated deeply with me and has shifted my perspective on how I approach each day.

Quote I'm pondering 💬

The way of the Essentialist means living by design, not by default. Instead of making choices reactively, the Essentialist deliberately distinguishes the vital few from the trivial many, eliminates the nonessentials, and then removes obstacles so the essential things have clear, smooth passage. In other words, Essentialism is a disciplined, systematic approach for determining where our highest point of contribution lies, then making execution of those things almost effortless.

Greg McKeown, Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less

I hope this was helpful and sparked some insights. I would love to hear your thoughts!
